The kick-off party of Summer, Memorial Day Weekend, is upon us and we've rounded up some favorite Summer staples. Whether you're the hostess-with-mostess or just trying to stay cool, these pieces are sure to give you a patriotic update and a helping hand.
Step-one - Beverages.
Holy-mind-blown-Batman...and by Walmart, no less. If you own a back yard (or front porch, for that matter) you need this. You don't have to move your drink every time someone wants a beverage and you only have to get up to pee. Other design options available HERE , but we are loving this spunky pop of red. Now that you've got some red, here are some stripes to go along with it (personal favorite is white). If i'm going to buy shatter-proof drinkware, then it has to serve a purpose above and beyond my 200 count of monogrammed Styrofoam cups. Alas, these do the trick! They are classy, but not stuck up, and blend well with whatever dinnerware i'm using. I tried a knock-off version and hated them after one wash due to scratches and warping. Not only did these perform, but BONUS they are on super sale and have free shipping!
Get used to hearing this, but I LOVE using outdoor rugs indoors. They can take the beating that comes with kids and kitchens; just hose them off! This graphic woven is on-trend and comes in variety of sizes. The 2.5' x 8' runner is a perfect size in front of most kitchen sinks...and it's on sale for $55. Why can't everything be this simple?
While we're talking outdoor rugs, I ran across this delightful doormat at Target (a dupe of a Crate and Barrel from a few years back). For $12, this pop of patriotism will last you from now until Labor Day.
More on this later, but pillows matter, folks! I've seen pillows make or break a space more times than I can count. These are make-a-space pillows that won't break the bank. Extra points for the variety of sizes and colors. Blue Palm Outdoor Pillows
The uses for this over-sized beach blanket are endless. Table cloth? Picnic? It's huge and comes in a ton of colors (pictured in beige, but lots of bright colors as well).
If you're firing up the grill then you need these. No splintering, no drunk stabbing yourself, and, since they are flexible, they compactly fit on any sized grill (or in any size container to marinate, for that matter!). Side note: These also make a great Father's Day present..but more on that later. We throw ours in the dishwasher, so clean up is easy.
Classic MDW plans usually involve a mess and a crowd. Whether it's popsicles dripping off of chins, firework debris, or too many beers in the backyard, these handy disposable trashcans keep clean-up easy and classy; just pull up the side and haul off. Extras store flat, tons of colors, and they are sold in 3 packs. I won't have a party without them!
